RPSC 2nd Grade Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
152 topics across 5 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
The Senior Teacher (Grade II) post, usually called 2nd Grade Teacher, is the subject teacher in Rajasthan's government secondary schools. The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), Ajmer, recruits for it on behalf of the School Education (Secondary) Department under the Rajasthan Educational (State and Subordinate) Service Rules, 2021.
The current cycle is the Senior Teacher Competitive Exam 2025, advertisement 07/2025-26 of 17 July 2025. It opened with 6,500 posts in ten subjects. On 4 July 2026, a week before the exam, corrigendum 11/2026-27 raised that to 9,651 under rule 24(1) of the service rules, which lets the Commission add up to 50 per cent.
The papers were held from 12 to 18 July 2026 and model answer keys came out between 28 July and 6 August 2026. As of mid-October 2026 the result had not been declared.
The previous round, the 2024 exam for 2,129 posts, had its main merit lists published in June 2026.

Exam Pattern
Two objective papers, both on OMR sheets. Paper I is general knowledge and is the same for everyone in a group; Paper II is your teaching subject.
| Paper | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| I: General Knowledge and Educational Psychology | 100 | 200 | 2 hours |
| II: The subject you applied for | 150 | 300 | 2 hours 30 minutes |
- A wrong answer costs one third of the marks for that question.
- Each question has five circles. Circle 5 means you are leaving it. Leaving all five blank also costs a third, and anyone who leaves more than 10 per cent of questions with no circle filled is disqualified.
- Merit is on the combined score out of 500.
The GK paper comes in four versions, one per group, and each is paired with that group's subject papers:
| Group | Subject papers sat with it |
|---|---|
| A | Social Science |
| B | Hindi |
| C | Science, Sanskrit |
| D | Mathematics, English, Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Gujarati |
Syllabus
Paper I
From the Paper I syllabus published on 25 September 2025:
- Rajasthan: geography, ancient sites, history to the 18th century, Rajputs and the Delhi Sultanate and Mughals, 1857 and the Prajamandal and peasant movements, integration, folk deities, saints, forts, painting schools, fairs, music, language and literature, and the state's political and administrative set-up down to Panchayati Raj, the Lokayukta and RPSC itself.
- Current affairs of Rajasthan: people, places, schemes, sport, awards, books.
- India and the world: physical geography, the Indian economy and foreign trade, the Constitution and foreign policy.
- Educational psychology: development, learning theories, personality, intelligence and creativity, motivation, individual differences and inclusive education, 21st century skills.
Paper II
Every subject paper has the same three layers: the subject at secondary and senior secondary level, the subject at graduation level, and teaching methods for that subject. The mathematics syllabus, for instance, runs from school algebra and geometry up to numerical analysis and difference equations, and ends with lesson plans, Bloom's taxonomy and test construction.
Each subject has its own PDF on the syllabus listing for this exam. Read yours rather than a friend's: the graduation-level part differs a lot between subjects.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification
A graduate degree recognised by the UGC and a B.Ed. from an NCTE-recognised institution. Corrigendum 09/2025-26 of 14 August 2025 replaced the original wording after the service rules were amended, so a diploma in education no longer counts.
| Subject | What the degree must include |
|---|---|
| Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Mathematics, Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Gujarati | That subject as an optional subject |
| Science | At least two of Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biotechnology and Biochemistry as optional subjects |
| Social Science | At least two of History, Geography, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration and Philosophy as optional subjects |
You also need working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari and of Rajasthani culture. Final-year students can apply but must hold the qualification before the exam.
Age, as on 1 January 2026
At least 18 and under 40. Upper age relaxation:
- Men of Rajasthan's SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS: 5 years
- Women of those categories: 10 years
- General category women: 5 years
- Widows and divorced women: no upper limit
- Persons with benchmark disabilities: a further 5 years
Sindhi and Gujarati posts were last advertised in 2018 and 2013, so candidates for those get three extra years. Reservation is for Rajasthan's own residents; reserved-category candidates from other states apply as general.
Selection Process
There is no interview. Selection is on the written score, in order of merit, separately for each subject and for the scheduled and non-scheduled areas. The Commission may scale or normalise marks if it needs to.
Before the result, candidates near the cut-off are asked to fill an online detailed application form so their documents can be checked. In the 2024 cycle these forms opened subject by subject in February 2026 and the main merit lists followed in June.
Scheduled-area residents can compete for both sets of posts but must mark the scheduled area as their first preference if they want a post there.
Salary
Pay Matrix Level 11 (the old grade pay of ₹4,200). During probation you get a fixed monthly salary under state rules, not the full Level 11 pay; the regular scale starts after probation.
How to Apply
Online through the RPSC recruitment portal on SSO Rajasthan. For the 2025 cycle, forms were accepted from 19 August to 17 September 2025. Applying for more than one subject means a separate form for each.
There is no per-exam fee. Rajasthan charges a one-time registration fee: ₹600 for general and creamy-layer OBC/MBC candidates, ₹400 for Rajasthan's reserved categories and for candidates with disabilities. If you skip two exams in a financial year after applying, the registration is blocked until you pay ₹750 (₹1,500 the second time). Withdraw your form in the window the Commission opens if you will not sit.
Corrections to a submitted form cost ₹500 and are allowed within ten days after the last date. Name, date of birth and similar details come from the OTR profile and Aadhaar, not the form.

Admit Card
Admit cards are put on the RPSC site and the SSO recruitment portal a few days before the paper, after a press note telling you your exam district. For the 2025 exam that note came on 1 July 2026. Download it with your application number and date of birth, and carry an original photo ID; the photo on the admit card is matched against your Aadhaar photo at the centre.
Result
Results come out subject by subject on the results page, each as a result preamble with cut-off marks for the main list and the reserve list, plus a separate marks lookup. Later come lists against rejected candidates and pick-up lists to fill posts where selected teachers do not join.
Before results, the Commission posts model answer keys and opens objections for three days at ₹100 a question.
Cut Off
Cut-offs are out of 500 and vary a lot by subject. From the 2024 cycle's main lists, non-scheduled area:
| Category | Hindi | Mathematics |
|---|---|---|
| General | 335.72 | 317.16 |
| OBC | 328.22 | 301.04 |
| EWS | 318.23 | 298.42 |
| MBC | 312.93 | 283.60 |
| SC | 300.85 | 224.49 |
| ST | 285.65 | 190.89 |
Scheduled-area lines were lower: 262.17 (Hindi) and 252.70 (Mathematics) for general candidates. With 9,651 posts against 2,129 last time, expect the 2025 lines to fall, though by how much nobody can say before the result.
Preparation Tips
- Paper II carries 300 of the 500 marks. Spend most of your time there, and do not neglect the teaching-methods part at the end of the syllabus; it is easy marks.
- The GK paper is heavy on Rajasthan. History, culture and the state's institutions are a large share of it.
- Mark circle 5 on any question you skip. A blank costs as much as a wrong answer, and too many blanks get you thrown out.
- Work through the Commission's own question papers for the 2024 and 2025 exams for your subject.
