RSMSSB JE Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
114 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
Advertisement No. 10/2026, Junior Engineer Combined Direct Recruitment 2026, was issued by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board on 15 August 2026 for 874 posts in the State's three engineering departments. Applications ran 16 August to 14 September 2026, age is reckoned as on 1 January 2027, and the paper is tentatively February 2027. The Board is the body long called the Rajasthan Subordinate and Ministerial Services Selection Board; it advertises now at rssb.rajasthan.gov.in.

- Want more than one Junior Engineer cadre? File a separate application for each.
- The form asks for a department preference order, allotment runs on Merit Cum Priority, and that order cannot be revised later.
- Scheduled Area posts go only to bona fide residents of Rajasthan's Scheduled Area: the candidate, or if born after 1 January 1970 their parents or ancestors, resident there before 1 January 1970, or related by marriage to such a person and resident since.
Selection is one written paper, 120 marks, two hours. No interview, no second stage, no physical test. The post sits at Pay Matrix Level L-10, though the first two years are probation on a fixed remuneration instead.

Exam Pattern
One paper, 120 marks, two hours
The scheme is the same for all three posts. Only Part B changes.
| Part | Content | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Part A | General Knowledge: history, art and culture, traditions and heritage of Rajasthan; the geography of Rajasthan; and the political and administrative system of Rajasthan | 40 |
| Part B | Civil Engineering (Degree), Civil Engineering (Diploma) or Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (Diploma), according to the post | 80 |
| Maximum marks | 120 | |
| Duration | 2 hours | |
- Multiple choice, all questions carry equal marks.
- Minimum qualifying mark 40 per cent. Score less and you are not eligible for appointment.
- One third of a question's marks is deducted for a wrong answer.
Two thirds of the paper is your engineering subject and the other third is Rajasthan. No reasoning, no arithmetic, no English.
Five options, and option E is compulsory
This rule decides more results here than the syllabus does. The Board's instructions:
- Each question has five options, A, B, C, D and E. You darken one circle with a blue ball point pen.
- Every question must have a circle filled. If you are not attempting one, darken E, which carries no penalty.
- A question with no circle darkened costs one third of its marks, the same as a wrong answer.
- Ten extra minutes are given beyond the scheduled time for one purpose: making sure no question is left empty.
- Leave more than 10 per cent of the questions unmarked and you are disqualified. On a 120 question paper that is more than 12 blanks.
So a candidate who habitually skips hard questions can fail this paper without getting a single answer wrong. Build the habit now: if you do not know it, mark E.
Delivery, normalisation and the answer key
The Board proposes to hold the paper separately for each post, as a Computer Based Test, a Tablet Based Test or an offline OMR test, and reserves the right to change the date. The five-option instructions above are written for the OMR form, so read the admit card instructions for the mode you are given. Where a paper runs in more than one session, normalisation is applied, so a published mark is a normalised score and not a raw count of correct answers.
After the exam the Board uploads the question paper, then the answer key, and invites objections at ₹100 each. Ten objections cost ₹1,000. The procedure appears in the notice inviting them.
Syllabus
Part A is 40 marks and the same for every post; Part B is 80 marks and specific to yours.
Part A: Rajasthan, 40 marks
History, art, culture, literature, traditions and heritage, seventeen topics: main sources of Rajasthan's history; prehistoric civilisations; major dynasties and their achievements; Mughal and Rajput relations; features of architecture; forts, monuments and structures; religious movements and folk deities; schools of painting, styles and handicrafts; principal works of Rajasthani language and literature and the regional dialects; fairs, festivals, folk music and dance, instruments and ornaments; culture, tradition and heritage; historical tourist places; leading personalities; the princely states, the British treaties and 1857; peasant, tribal and Prajamandal movements; the integration of Rajasthan; and political awakening and development with special reference to women.
Geography, sixteen topics: location and extent; the physical divisions, being the desert region, the Aravalli hill region, the plains and the plateau; drainage; climate; soils; natural vegetation; forest and wildlife conservation; environmental and ecological issues; desertification; agro-climatic regions and major crops; livestock; multipurpose projects; irrigation projects; water conservation; transport; and mineral resources.
Political and administrative system, seven topics: local urban self government; the 74th Constitutional Amendment Bill; the Governor, the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister, district administration and the Lokayukta; the State Human Rights Commission; the State Information Commission; the State Election Commission; and the Rajasthan Public Service Guarantee Act, 2011.
Part B: Civil (Degree), 80 marks
Thirteen headings: Building Technology and Construction Management, with building materials, road materials, CPM and PERT; Fluid Mechanics, from properties of fluids and hydrostatics through hydro-kinematics, Bernoulli's equation, the momentum equation and flow through pipes; Surveying, Estimating, Costing and Field Engineering; Irrigation and Water Resources; Theory of Structures and Strength of Materials; Structural Analysis; Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering; Design of R.C. Concrete and Masonry Structures; Design of Steel Structures; Construction Technology, with flooring, plastering, centering and shuttering; AutoCAD Civil Engineering Drawing; Public Health Engineering, with water supply, purification, drainage, sewerage layout and sewage treatment; and Highway and Bridges, with highway planning, flexible pavements, traffic engineering and alignment.
Part B: Civil (Diploma), 80 marks
Seven headings: Building Technology and Construction Management; Surveying, Estimating and Costing; Strength of Materials; Reinforced Concrete Design; Irrigation and Water Resources; Soil Engineering; and AutoCAD Civil Engineering Drawing. It drops structural analysis, design of steel structures, public health engineering and highways and bridges: narrower, not simply easier.
Part B: Mechanical / Electrical (Diploma), 80 marks
The annexure prints both syllabuses under this single post.
Electrical, eleven headings: basic concepts; circuit laws; magnetic circuits; AC fundamentals; measurement and measuring instruments; electrical machines; synchronous machines; generation, transmission and distribution; estimation and costing; utilisation of electrical energy; basic electronics.
Mechanical, three headings at length: fluid mechanics; fluid machines, including reciprocating pumps, hydraulic accumulators, intensifiers, presses, couplings and torque converters; and internal combustion engines, covering four and two stroke cycles, petrol and diesel engines, carburetion and the Solex carburettor, multi point fuel injection, coil and magneto ignition, fuel feed pumps and injectors, cooling, lubrication, governing, and performance measurement by rope brake, Prony brake, hydraulic dynamometer and the Morse test.
No reasoning, no quantitative aptitude, no English, no current affairs. Very little SSC or banking preparation transfers.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualification
Degree posts: a degree in Civil Engineering from a university established by law in India or a recognised institution, or a qualification the Government has declared equivalent. Diploma posts: a diploma in Civil, or in Mechanical or Electrical, Engineering from a recognised institution, or one the Institute of Engineers recognises for exemption from the studentship examination. Every post also needs working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari and knowledge of Rajasthani culture. Final year students may apply but must hold the qualification by the date of the examination, and only a qualification entered in the online application and the OTR counts.
Age, as on 1 January 2027
18 completed, 40 not attained. The previous cycle reckoned age as on 1 January 2025 and produced no recruitment, so every applicant gets one extra year on the upper limit, under the Personnel Department notification of 23 September 2008 that caps such relief at three years.
| Category | Relaxation in the upper limit |
|---|---|
| SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS men, Rajasthan natives | 5 years |
| General category women | 5 years |
| SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS women, Rajasthan natives | 10 years |
| Widows and divorced women | No age limit, subject to retirement age |
| Displaced from Pakistan in the 1971 war | No age limit |
| Ex-prisoner who held a substantive post before conviction | No upper age limit |
| Ex-prisoner under age at conviction | Equal to imprisonment served |
| Ex-servicemen | 15 years, capped at 50, or 55 where experience in a lower post is essential |
| Benchmark disability candidates | 5 years on top of the category relaxation |
| NCC cadet instructors | Equal to NCC service, up to 3 years |
| Substantive State, panchayat samiti, zila parishad and State undertaking employees | Upper limit becomes 40 |
The relaxations are Non-Cumulative. You get one of them, whichever is highest. A reserved category woman who also has a benchmark disability cannot stack all three.
Nationality, health and character
A citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire or Ethiopia to settle permanently; the last four groups need an eligibility certificate from the Government of India. A selected candidate produces a health certificate from the Chief Medical and Health Officer or district medical jurist, a character certificate from the last institution attended, and certificates from two responsible non-relatives, none over six months old at the date of application.
Reservation
| Strand | Provision |
|---|---|
| Women | 30 per cent, with 8 per cent widows and 2 per cent divorced or separated women. Unfilled widow posts go to divorced women of the same category and the other way round, then to general women of it, failing that to men of it, and are not carried forward |
| MBC | 5 per cent, notification of 13 February 2019 |
| EWS | 10 per cent, notifications of 19 February and 20 October 2019 |
| Persons with disabilities | 4 per cent horizontal, in the categories identified for each department |
| Ex-servicemen | 12.5 per cent horizontal, Absorption of Ex-servicemen Rules 1988, Rajasthan natives only |
| Outstanding sportspersons | 2 per cent horizontal, notification F.5(31)DOP/A-II/84 of 21 November 2019, Rajasthan natives only |
| Sahariya tribe of Baran district | Its own reservation, but only if marked in the relevant column. Otherwise treated as General |
Horizontal means adjusted within your vertical category, not alongside it. Four rules then decide whether a claim works:
- Natives of another state or union territory get no category benefit here and apply as General.
- A woman from another state who gains Rajasthan residence by marriage gets no SC, ST, OBC or MBC reservation, per the Supreme Court judgment of 30 August 2018 in Civil Appeal 1085/2013 and the Rajasthan High Court judgment of 18 September 2018. She applies as General, and may claim EWS with a Rajasthan domicile and an EWS certificate.
- A married woman claiming SC, ST, OBC, MBC or Sahariya reservation needs a caste certificate in her father's name and residence. One on her husband's is refused.
- A reserved candidate competing for General posts qualifies only if they took no concession other than the fee.
Category certificates must be issued on or before the last date of application. A later one is accepted only against an affidavit that the eligibility existed on that date, and a false affidavit voids the appointment.
Persons with disabilities, and the new UDID rule
- 4 per cent horizontal. The Public Health Engineering Department identifies deaf and hard of hearing; LD or CP covering one arm, one leg, cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism and acid attack victims; autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness; and multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness.
- A Permanent Disability Certificate of 40 per cent or more, held by the last date of application, with only the detail entered online counting. Benchmark disability candidates also get 5 per cent off the qualifying marks, Rule 6(B) of the Rajasthan Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Amendment) Rules 2021.
- New this cycle: under the Personnel Department circular of 15 July 2026, following a Rajasthan High Court interim order of 30 April 2026 in S.B. Civil Writ Petition No. 6021/2026, every PwD applicant must hold a valid UDID card when applying and enter its detail in the form. Disability is verified by a board at the divisional headquarters, with an appeal to an appellate board.
- Ticking the scribe option does not by itself grant one. Bringing your own means the papers reach the centre superintendent a day before; asking the Board for one, two days before. Blindness, locomotor disability of both arms and cerebral palsy get a scribe on request; others need Appendix C under Section 2(r) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, or Appendix D under Section 2(s). A scribe may sit for only one candidate.
Bars that have nothing to do with marks
- A man with more than one living wife, and a woman who married a man who already has one, subject to Government exemption on special grounds; and a married applicant who accepted dowry.
- Under the notification of 16 March 2023, more than two children born on or after 1 June 2002. Carve-outs: no bar so long as the number of children as on 1 June 2002 has not increased; a multiple birth counts as one; a child with a disability from an earlier delivery is not counted; there is a remarriage carve-out; and the rule does not apply to widows and divorced women.
- Impersonation, forged documents, false statements, suppression or unfair means: debarred permanently or for a period the Board fixes, plus criminal liability. A candidate already under debarment cannot apply while it runs.
- Marriage registration is compulsory for government service in Rajasthan, circular of 22 May 2006. Married women file a declaration about children; a divorced woman an affidavit that she has not remarried as on the last date.
Selection Process
One examination decides it
No interview and no second written stage. The sequence:
- Online application through the SSO portal, by 14 September 2026.
- The written paper, tentatively February 2027, 120 marks in two hours.
- The 40 per cent qualifying floor. Below it a candidate is not eligible for appointment. Benchmark disability candidates and ex-servicemen get 5 per cent, or for ex-servicemen the figure in the service rules if higher, with a further five per cent where ex-servicemen are unavailable.
- Provisional selection on merit, announced by separate notice.
- Eligibility check and document verification by the department concerned, not by the Board.
- Department allotment on Merit Cum Priority, from your preference order.
- Police verification, medical fitness certificate and, where applicable, a No Objection Certificate.
- Two years of probation-cum-training on a fixed remuneration, with an examination to pass at its end.
An admit card settles nothing. Candidates are admitted provisionally on their online entries, and a candidature found wanting on age, qualification or category can be cancelled at any stage. Apply in the wrong category and there is no fixing it once the correction window shuts.
Certificates, and who checks them
Under the Personnel Department circular of 22 August 2024 the departments run the eligibility check and the verification, and the decision is theirs. Originals wanted: educational and training qualifications, age, marital, divorced, ex-serviceman and outstanding sportsperson status, and disability. Then:
- Reserved posts need a Rajasthan domicile certificate and a caste certificate from a competent Rajasthan authority.
- An SC or ST certificate is valid for life. An OBC certificate is issued once, but the non-creamy-layer certificate lasts a year and carries forward on a verified affidavit for up to three. The EWS Income and Asset Certificate works the same way; for EWS women one based on the husband's and father's name and income is accepted.
- OBC and MBC certificates must be on the father's name, residence and income. MBC benefit comes on an OBC-format certificate for the castes listed as MBC, circular of 21 June 2019.
- An ex-serviceman needs a discharge certificate or NOC, an outstanding sportsperson a sports certificate, a widow her husband's death certificate plus a document linking him to her, and a divorced woman the court's decree, all dated on or before the last date of application.
After selection: a character certificate from the last institution attended stating at least "Good", certificates from two gazetted officers, police verification and a medical fitness certificate. Anyone already in government or public undertaking service needs an NOC, and should tell their employer in writing before applying.
Salary
Pay Matrix Level L-10, from the third year
The State Government fixes Pay Matrix Level L-10 under the Seventh Pay Commission for Junior Engineer, in all three departments, whether you enter by degree or by diploma. The advertisement quotes no separate scale for diploma holders: the post is the same post.
What happens first is the part that matters:
- Every direct recruit serves two years of probation as a probationer-trainee.
- Through those two years the pay is a fixed monthly remuneration at rates fixed by the State Government, not the pay scale of the post.
- During probation there is no house rent allowance, no dearness allowance, no city compensatory allowance and no special pay. Other facilities and leave follow the amended Rajasthan Service Rules.
- The minimum of L-10 and the normal allowances begin on completion of probation, once the probationer has taken the training, passed the examination held after it, been found of unquestioned integrity and been judged fit for confirmation.
So read L-10 as what the post pays from year three, and find the current fixed remuneration rate before planning around it. Pension is under the scheme the State Government applies to newly appointed employees.
You will work in whichever of the Public Works, Water Resources and Public Health Engineering departments is allotted to you on Merit Cum Priority, half of which is the preference order you fixed when applying.
How to Apply
The fee is paid once, not per recruitment
Rajasthan charges a One Time Registration (OTR) fee, Personnel Department circular of 19 April 2023, paid once through your SSO ID and covering your later applications to the Board.
| Applicant | One time registration fee |
|---|---|
| General, and creamy layer OBC and MBC | ₹600 |
| Rajasthan non-creamy-layer OBC and MBC, EWS, SC, ST | ₹400 |
| All persons with disabilities | ₹400 |
Already paid it? You pay nothing again. Candidates from outside Rajasthan in SC, ST, OBC, MBC or EWS are treated as General here and pay the General fee.
Applying and not turning up has a price. Under the Personnel Department (Ka-2) circular of 9 May 2025, missing any two examinations held in one financial year by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission, this Board or any other Rajasthan recruitment agency blocks your OTR. The first unblock costs ₹750; two more absences the same year cost ₹1,500.
How the application works
Log in at sso.rajasthan.gov.in, open the Recruitment Portal under Citizen Apps (G2C), complete One Time Registration with your category, disability status, home state and fee, then Apply Now and Final Submit. Check that an Application ID was generated: no ID means the application was not accepted, and a Preview is not a Submit.
- Fill the OTR carefully. Category, disability status and home state recorded there cannot be edited in the application form.
- Apply from your own SSO ID, with your own mobile number and email, kept until appointment.
- A photograph under a month old and a visible body mark are mandatory. Offline applications are never accepted.
The photo and signature rules reject more applications than anything else
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Live photo | Captured in the OTR on a 5 second timer. Blink two or three times, look straight at the camera, background white or light and well lit, face filling at least 50 per cent of the frame with head, eyes, nose and chin visible. Spectacles allowed but must not glare; no dark or sun glasses |
| Signature and thumb impression | Black or dark blue pen inside a 7 cm by 2 cm box on white A4 paper, scanned and cropped to the box. JPEG only, 280 by 80 to 560 by 160 pixels, 20 KB to 50 KB. The left thumb impression follows, or the right if there is no left |
A phone photograph of your signature is not accepted, both marks must be your own, and editing the live photo can cancel the candidature at any stage. Your signature on the attendance sheet on exam day must match the uploaded one.
Three correction windows, and six things that never change
After Final Submit you can never change your name, father's name, date of birth, photograph, signature and thumb impression, or handwriting sample.
| When | What you may correct | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| While applications are open | Any editable entry | Free |
| 3 days after the closing date | Everything except the six above | ₹300 |
| 7 days after the examination, last chance | Everything except the six above and the educational qualification | Prescribed correction fee |
To change your name, father's name, date of birth or gender in the OTR, change it in Aadhaar or Jan Aadhaar first, then press fetch. Reservation category, disability category and domicile are editable in the OTR directly. A candidate widowed after applying may still seek that category change before the result, with documents and ₹300.
Withdrawal, and the penalty for skipping it
About one month before the examination the Board opens a three day Withdraw window under My Recruitment. A candidate who does not hold the advertised qualification and does not withdraw faces legal action after the eligibility check.
Pay well before the last date so a pending transaction has time to clear, and only through the official route: e-Mitra kiosk, Jan Suvidha Kendra, net banking, ATM cum debit card or credit card. Help: e-Mitra 0141-2922241 and 0141-2922238, online application 0294-3057541, grievances pg.rssb@rajasthan.gov.in. Everything is published only on rssb.rajasthan.gov.in.
Participating Institutes
The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, Jaipur conducts the examination, from the State Institute of Agriculture Management premises, Durgapura, Jaipur 302018, telephone 0141-2722520. Website: rssb.rajasthan.gov.in. The 874 posts sit in three departments, each recruiting under its own rules:
| Department | Posts | Service rules |
|---|---|---|
| Public Works | 393 | Rajasthan Subordinate Engineering (Buildings and Roads Branch) Service Rules, 1973, as amended |
| Water Resources | 251 | Rajasthan Subordinate Engineering Service (Irrigation Branch) Rules, 1967, as amended |
| Public Health Engineering | 230 | Rajasthan Engineering Subordinate Service (Public Health Branch) Rules, 1967, as amended |
Scheduled Area recruitment is additionally governed by the Rajasthan Scheduled Areas Subordinate, Ministerial and Fourth Class Service (Recruitment and Other Service Conditions) Rules, 2014, with the departmental rules filling any gap.
Which department gets you is decided on Merit Cum Priority from the preference order you give when applying, and that order cannot be revised. Your documents are then verified by the department concerned rather than the Board, under the Personnel Department circular of 22 August 2024.
Exam Centres
The advertisement does not name the examination cities. Your centre reaches you on the admit card, and the Board publishes the arrangements on rssb.rajasthan.gov.in. The paper is tentatively February 2027, held separately for each post as a Computer Based Test, a Tablet Based Test or an offline OMR test, and the Board may change the date.
| Allowed | Not allowed |
|---|---|
| The e-admit card | Mobile phone, pager, Bluetooth or any communication device, anywhere in the premises |
| One transparent blue ink ball point pen | A purse |
| One 2.5 cm by 2.5 cm photograph, under a month old | Any other prohibited article |
| One original photo identity card |
Prohibited items may be confiscated, and nobody keeps them safe for you. A dress code applies to every candidate, published separately on the Board's website.
Breach falls under the Rajasthan Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act, 2022: up to three years' rigorous imprisonment and a minimum fine of ₹1,00,000 for a candidate, five to ten years and a minimum fine of ₹10,00,000 for anyone conspiring or abetting, and two years' debarment on conviction.
Important Dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Advertisement No. 10/2026 issued | 15 August 2026 |
| Applications and fee window opens | 16 August 2026 |
| Applications close | 14 September 2026, 11:59 p.m., after which the link goes inactive |
| Free correction window | While applications are open |
| Paid correction window, ₹300 | 3 days after the closing date |
| Withdrawal window, 3 days | About one month before the examination |
| Age reckoned as on | 1 January 2027 |
| Examination | Tentatively February 2027 |
| Last correction window, 7 days | After the examination is held |
Every certificate supporting a claim of category, disability, ex-serviceman or sportsperson status, widowhood or divorce must be dated on or before 14 September 2026.
The cycle is irregular. The Board's advertisements page lists Junior Engineer notifications on 3 March 2020, 17 January 2022 (amended 14 March 2022), 26 November 2024 (amended four times between January and July 2025) and 15 August 2026. Four amendments to the 2024 advertisement, and no recruitment out of it, is why everyone now gets an extra year of age relaxation.
Dates are announced on rssb.rajasthan.gov.in. Admit card notices also run in the newspapers, but the Board undertakes no separate correspondence and reserves the right to change the examination date.
Admit Card
Admit cards come through your SSO login and the Recruitment Portal, with your application number and SSO ID. The Board sends none by post, and says so expressly. Notice that cards have been issued appears in the newspapers and on rssb.rajasthan.gov.in.
Holding one proves nothing. Candidates are admitted provisionally on their online entries, and if age, qualification, category or any other condition is found wanting at any stage the candidature goes with it.
One check before the day: the signature you put on the admit card or attendance sheet must match the signature uploaded with the application, and a photograph that does not match the candidate carries the same risk. Both are pulled from the OTR.
Result
Results appear on rssb.rajasthan.gov.in and nowhere else; the Board undertakes no separate correspondence. Before the result it uploads the question paper, then the answer key, and invites objections at ₹100 each.
How the mark is arrived at: out of 120, minus one third of a question's marks for a wrong answer and for a question left with no circle darkened; disqualification if more than 10 per cent of questions carry no circle at all; a 40 per cent floor, relaxed by 5 per cent for benchmark disability candidates and ex-servicemen; and normalisation where the paper ran in more than one session. Merit then decides provisional selection, and departments are allotted on Merit Cum Priority.
Provisionally selected candidates are called by separate notice for document verification, which the recruiting department carries out rather than the Board. Selection stays provisional throughout, so a candidate found ineligible can be removed at any stage.
Cut Off
The Board publishes no cut-off for this recruitment in the advertisement. The only figure it prints is the floor: 40 per cent, or 48 of 120, with 5 per cent off for benchmark disability candidates and for ex-servicemen.
What actually decides a result is the mark of the last candidate taken in your category, for your post code, in your area stream, and this advertisement spreads 874 posts across three departments, three post codes, two area streams and seven vertical categories, with horizontal strands cutting through all of them. There is no single number to quote.
Category-wise marks for a cycle are released with the result on rssb.rajasthan.gov.in, some months after the paper. Treat figures circulating for earlier Junior Engineer cycles as background only: they belong to those cycles' vacancy counts and categories, and where a paper ran in several sessions the published mark is a normalised score that will not compare with a raw one.
Preparation Tips
Start with the marking rule
Score every practice paper the way the Board will: plus one for a right answer, minus a third for a wrong one, minus a third for a blank, nothing for option E. Then count your blanks, because more than 12 of 120 is a disqualification whatever the paper scored. A mock that does not penalise unattempted questions trains the exact habit that ends candidatures.
Where the marks are
80 of 120 marks are your own engineering subject. A civil graduate who prepares nothing but Part B can clear 40 per cent on that alone. But the 40 marks of Rajasthan are the cheapest in the paper and they decide merit, because everyone in the room knows the engineering. Part A is a closed list of forty numbered topics with no current affairs to chase, and one item gets routinely skipped: the Rajasthan Public Service Guarantee Act, 2011.
Know which Part B is yours. Civil (Degree) has thirteen headings, including structural analysis, design of steel structures, public health engineering, and highways and bridges. Civil (Diploma) has seven, without those four, so do not prepare from degree material and hope. Mechanical / Electrical (Diploma) carries eleven electrical headings and three mechanical ones under the one post. AutoCAD Civil Engineering Drawing is in both civil syllabuses, and easy to skip.
Before you open the form
Allotment runs on Merit Cum Priority and your department preference order cannot be changed afterwards, so read the vacancy table first: PWD holds most of the degree posts at 351, while Water Resources and Public Health Engineering hold most of the diploma posts at 179 and 151. Then:
- Fill the OTR carefully, apply from your own SSO ID, and upload a signature scanned from a 7 by 2 cm box, not photographed on a phone.
- Enter every qualification you might rely on. One you did not enter is refused at verification.
- Get every supporting certificate dated on or before the last date. A married woman claiming caste reservation needs it in her father's name.
- Not sitting the paper? Use the withdrawal window. Absence costs an OTR block and ₹750.
On the day, carry the e-admit card, a transparent blue ink ball point pen, one photograph under a month old and an original photo identity card. Leave the phone outside the premises altogether, follow the dress code, and spend the 10 extra minutes on the bubbles.
Sample Papers
The Board uploads its own question paper after each examination, then the answer key, on rssb.rajasthan.gov.in. That is the best practice material for this exam, it is free, and it sits on the same page as the advertisement. Past Junior Engineer advertisements back to 3 March 2020 are there too, each carrying the full syllabus for its cycle.
No model paper or practice set is published by the Board. If you buy one, check three things against it: five options with a compulsory E, a penalty for unattempted questions, and the right Part B list for your post, since the civil degree syllabus has thirteen headings and the civil diploma syllabus has seven. Material built on four options and free blanks is not modelling this paper.

Yes. Advertisement No. 10/2026, issued 15 August 2026 by the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board for 874 posts across the Public Works, Water Resources and Public Health Engineering departments. Applications closed 14 September 2026; the paper is tentatively February 2027.
What is the exam pattern, and is there an interview?
One paper, 120 marks, 2 hours, and no interview. Part A, 40 marks, on Rajasthan's history, culture, heritage, geography and its political and administrative system. Part B, 80 marks, on your engineering subject.
Is there negative marking, and what is option E for?
One third of a question's marks goes for a wrong answer, and the same third for a question left with no circle darkened. Every question has five options and one must be filled, so not attempting a question means darkening E, which carries no penalty.
What happens if I leave a lot of questions blank?
More than 10 per cent unmarked and you are disqualified, which on a 120 question paper is more than 12. The Board gives 10 extra minutes beyond the two hours so that every question has a circle filled.
What is the minimum qualifying mark?
40 per cent, 48 of 120. Benchmark disability candidates and ex-servicemen get a 5 per cent relaxation.
What is the age limit?
18 to 40 as on 1 January 2027, plus one extra year for every applicant because the 2024 cycle produced no recruitment. Category relaxations are Non-Cumulative: you get whichever single provision is highest.
What qualification do I need?
A degree in Civil Engineering for the degree posts, a diploma in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering for the diploma posts, plus working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari and knowledge of Rajasthani culture. Final year students may apply but must qualify by the date of the exam.
What is the fee?
A One Time Registration fee, not a per-application one: ₹600 for General and creamy layer OBC and MBC, ₹400 for Rajasthan non-creamy-layer OBC and MBC, EWS, SC, ST and all PwD candidates. Already paid it? You pay nothing again.
What happens if I apply and do not appear?
Miss any two examinations of a Rajasthan recruitment agency in one financial year and your OTR is blocked. Unblocking costs ₹750, and ₹1,500 if it happens again that year. Use the three day withdrawal window about a month before the exam instead; a candidate who lacks the advertised qualification and does not withdraw faces legal action.
Can I apply for more than one Junior Engineer post, and how is my department decided?
Yes, with a separate application per cadre. Departments are allotted on Merit Cum Priority from the preference order in your application, which cannot be changed afterwards.
What can I correct after submitting?
Not your name, father's name, date of birth, photograph, signature and thumb impression, or handwriting sample. Everything else: free while applications are open, ₹300 for 3 days after the closing date, and a last 7 days after the exam that also excludes the educational qualification.
Who can actually claim category reservation here?
Only Rajasthan natives. A candidate native to another state or union territory is treated as General and pays the General fee. A married woman claiming SC, ST, OBC, MBC or Sahariya reservation must use a caste certificate in her father's name and residence; one on her husband's is refused.
What is the pay?
Pay Matrix Level L-10, but only after probation. The two year probation-cum-training pays a fixed monthly remuneration with no HRA, DA, city compensatory allowance or special pay.
Is there an answer key, and where is the admit card?
The Board uploads the question paper after the exam, then the key, with objections at ₹100 each. Admit cards come through your SSO login and the Recruitment Portal; none by post.
