The 2022 round had one CBT, every question one mark, a quarter mark off for each wrong answer.

The GATE-based route replaces this test. UPPCL sets no paper of its own for it.

The 2022 advertisement said the branch syllabus is the same as GATE 2021, so for the electrical post that is the GATE Electrical Engineering syllabus. Under the GATE-based route the exam is GATE itself.

From the 2022 advertisement. Expect the next one to add a valid GATE score.

• Degree: full-time engineering degree in Electrical or Power Engineering, or a mixed-discipline degree with it, or Sections A and B of the Institution of Engineers (India). Distance degrees do not count.
• Hindi: working knowledge of Devnagari.
• Age: 21 to 40 on 1 January 2022. Five years more for SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and freedom fighter dependants of Uttar Pradesh, 15 for persons with disabilities. The overall ceiling is 55.

Reservation is only for original residents of Uttar Pradesh. Others apply as unreserved.

In 2022: CBT, then an interview for up to two times the category-wise vacancies, and a select list on the combined CBT and interview marks. Under 30 per cent in the CBT ruled you out of the interview, and a shortlisted candidate who skipped the interview was cancelled.

With the GATE route, the shortlist is drawn from GATE scores first. The Commission had not published the rest of the process in October 2026.

Pay Matrix Level 10, starting at ₹59,500, plus dearness and other UPPCL allowances. Selected candidates train first and are absorbed after.

The 2022 round was online at uppcl.org, with a fee of ₹1,180 (₹826 for SC and ST of Uttar Pradesh, ₹12 processing for persons with disabilities). It was non-refundable. Fee and process for the GATE-based round will come with its advertisement.

Original certificates are checked later: caste issued after 31 March 2021 for OBC (NCL), domicile issued after 31 March 2018.

The 2022 CBT used centres in Uttar Pradesh: Allahabad, Aligarh, Varanasi, Agra, Kanpur, Bareilly, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Jhansi, Muzaffarnagar and Greater Noida. GATE has its own centres.

No Assistant Engineer advertisement was open in October 2026. Two reference points:

Admit cards for the 2022 CBT came from uppcl.org. With the GATE route the admit card is GATE's own.

Results are posted on the Vacancy/Results page under each advertisement number. In 2022 the interview call letters were posted on 9 November 2022 and the selected list on 6 October 2023.

UPPCL has not printed cut-off marks for this post in the advertisement, and the notices on the Vacancy/Results page give selected lists rather than the last mark. The 2022 CBT bar was 30 per cent, and about two times the category vacancies were called to interview.

• Prepare for GATE Electrical Engineering. Without a GATE score the application is not accepted.
• Keep the final degree certificate and the caste and domicile certificates ready in the formats UPPCL names.
