UPSSSC Pharmacist Syllabus, Exam Pattern, Eligibility
136 topics across 4 subjects. Every question carries a written explanation.
UPSSSC Pharmacist covers the pharmacist posts the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission fills for state departments. The Commission, at Pikup Bhawan, third floor, Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow 226010, began in 1988 as a Board (by ordinance, then Act No. 7 of 1988), became a Commission on 31 May 1990, and was made a government department by the 1993 amendment. It handles direct recruitment to Group C posts.
You can't apply without a PET score card. Since the government order of 20 November 2020 the Commission runs a two-tier system: only candidates who sat the relevant Preliminary Eligibility Test can apply for a main exam, shortlisting is on the normalized PET score, and a zero or negative score rules you out. Each main exam is tied to a PET year.
There's no single pharmacist exam. Each department's cadre is advertised separately. Two were live in September 2026:
| Post | Advertisement | Department | Posts | PET year | Status on 12 September 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Veterinary Pharmacist | 18-Exam/2026 | Directorate of Animal Husbandry | 1,308 | 2025 | Applications 14 September to 5 October 2026 |
| Pharmacist (Ayurvedic) | 01-Exam/2024 | Directorate of Ayurved | 1,002 | 2023 | Main exam 20 September 2026, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM |
That's 2,310 pharmacist posts at once. Veterinary Pharmacist pays Level 5, Rs 29,200 to Rs 92,300, needs Intermediate with Biology plus a 2 year 3 month Veterinary Pharmacy diploma, and the application costs Rs 25 for everyone.
Two unusual points: no council registration is needed, because no Veterinary Pharmacy Council exists in Uttar Pradesh; and none of the 1,308 posts is reserved for persons with disability.

Exam Pattern
Stage one: PET
Sat in an earlier year. Its normalized score decides who's shortlisted for the main exam. Candidates whose PET result is Under Investigation or Provisional can apply and be shortlisted provisionally, subject to the Commission's enquiry.
Stage two: Veterinary Pharmacist main exam
| Paper | One, 100 objective questions, 1 mark each |
| Duration | 2 hours (120 minutes) |
| Negative marking | One quarter (25 per cent) of the question's mark per wrong answer |
| Basis of selection | Written exam only. Interviews ended under the UP Lower Level Posts Direct Recruitment (Discontinuation of Interview) Rules, 2017 |
| Part | Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|

| 2 | Concepts of computers and information technology, and knowledge of contemporary technological development and innovation in that field | 15 | 15 |
| 3 | General knowledge relating to the State of Uttar Pradesh | 20 | 20 |
| Total | 100 | 100 | |
Part 1 by topic, with the Commission's own question counts:
| Topic | Questions | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Anatomy of livestock and poultry | 4 |
| 2 | Introduction to livestock management | 5 |
| 3 | Introduction to animal breeds and economic traits | 5 |
| 4 | Fundamentals of animal nutrition and health | 5 |
| 5 | Fundamentals of animal physiology | 4 |
| 6 | Fundamentals of clinical pathology | 3 |

| 13 | Pharmacist jurisprudence | 5 |
| 14 | Farm management and extension | 5 |
| 15 | Hospital practice training | 3 |
| Total | 65 | |
A blind guess on four options is worth 1(0.25) − 0.25(0.75) = 0.0625 of a mark on average, so answer anything where you can rule out an option.
Pharmacist (Ayurvedic)
The 01-Exam/2024 advertisement is no longer on the site, so its scheme can't be checked. The Commission's notice of 11 September 2026 gives a two-hour paper on 20 September 2026, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Syllabus
From Advertisement No. 18-Exam/2026, approved by Personnel Section-3 letter 485/47-Ka-3-2026 of 30 June 2026. Question counts per topic are under exam pattern.
Part 1: subject knowledge, 65 questions

- Hospital practice training: emergencies, assisting the vet, managing pharmacy stock.
Part 2: computers and IT, 15 questions
History and uses of computers, IT, the internet and the web; hardware and software, input and output, IP addresses, gadgets, e-mail, printers, tablets and mobiles, MS Word and MS Excel, operating systems, social networking, e-governance; digital financial instruments; future skills and cyber security; AI, big data, deep learning, machine learning, the internet of things, and India's achievements in the field.
Part 3: Uttar Pradesh general knowledge, 20 questions
History, culture, art, architecture, festivals, folk dance, literature, regional languages, heritage, customs and tourism; geography, environment, resources, climate, soil, forests, wildlife, mines and minerals; economy, agriculture, industry, business and employment; polity and administration; current events and the state's achievements.
So 35 marks have nothing to do with pharmacy.
Eligibility Criteria
First, you need the right year's PET score card (PET-2025 for Veterinary Pharmacist, PET-2023 for Ayurvedic). Login is by PET registration number and OTP.

Salary
| Department | Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Uttar Pradesh |
| Level | Level 5 |
| Pay scale | Rs 29,200 to Rs 92,300 |
| Posts | Permanent and temporary |
The advertisement gives only the level and band; allowances follow state rules. Pay for Pharmacist (Ayurvedic) can't be checked, since that advertisement is off the site.
How to Apply
Apply online only, from the Live Advertisement section of upsssc.gov.in. The whole form can be done in one sitting.
- Log in with your PET-2025 registration number and OTP. Your PET details fill in automatically.
- Add the post-specific details and qualifications.
- Pay Rs 25. The form submits itself once the bank adjusts the payment.
- Print and keep the form for document verification.
| Category | Application fee | Online process charge | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unreserved, OBC, SC, ST | Nil | Rs 25 | Rs 25 |
Horizontal categories pay by original category. The exam fee is charged later, only to shortlisted candidates.
Watch the bank adjustment. Applications close 5 October 2026, but you can't print until the fee is adjusted, which must happen by 12 October 2026. Pay early.
Until 12 October you can edit, via the Applicant's Dashboard with an OTP, only: correspondence address, EWS and horizontal categories, qualification details, and marital status.
The Commission also runs a One Time Registration whose details carry into later applications.
Participating Institutes
UPSSSC runs the exam and declares results. The employing department requisitions posts, sets qualifications through its service rules, verifies documents and appoints.
| Post | Employer | Service rules |
|---|---|---|
| Veterinary Pharmacist | Directorate of Animal Husbandry | Veterinary Pharmacist Service Rules, 2025 |
| Pharmacist (Ayurvedic) | Directorate of Ayurved | Not on a document still published |
Group A and B posts go through the UP Public Service Commission instead, and institutions such as SGPGIMS, KGMU and RMLIMS hire their own pharmacists.
Exam Centres
The advertisement lists no exam cities. Shortlisted candidates who've paid the main exam fee get an Advance Intimation of Examination District on upsssc.gov.in and the Commission's mobile app. It isn't the admit card. The Veterinary Pharmacist exam date will be notified later (clause 8).
Important Dates
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Veterinary Pharmacist advertisement | 14 August 2026 |
| Applications open | 14 September 2026 |
| Applications, fee and certificates close | 5 October 2026 |
| Fee adjustment and edits close | 12 October 2026 |
| Age reckoned on | 1 July of the advertisement year |
| Veterinary Pharmacist main exam | To be notified |
| Ayurvedic main exam notice | 11 September 2026 |
| Pharmacist (Ayurvedic) main exam | 20 September 2026, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM |
Cycles are slow: the Ayurvedic one was advertised in 2024 on a 2023 PET and sat its paper in 2026.
Admit Card
Pay the main exam fee first; nothing shows until you do. Then download the district intimation, then the admit card when the Commission announces it. Both are on upsssc.gov.in, which has separate links for main and PET versions, so pick the right one. A valid admit card is compulsory.
Result
Results are a per-candidate lookup on the results page and the Applicant's Dashboard. Selection is on the written exam alone, followed by eligibility checking and document verification. Provisional PET candidates can still have results reversed after the enquiry.
Once applications close, follow Current Status of Published Advertisements against your advertisement number. On 12 September 2026 that stream carried notices for Lekhpal (02-Exam/2025), Naksha Navis and Manchitrak (11-Exam/2023), Forensic Science (15-Exam/2026), Forest Guard (12-Exam/2026), Stenographer (13-Exam/2024), Health Worker (11-Exam/2024) and Pharmacist (Ayurvedic). The Notifications and Advertisements page then carried 17-Exam/2026 and 20-Exam/2026, neither for pharmacists.
Cut Off
UPSSSC publishes no cut-off marks for this exam. Results are a per-candidate lookup, and the result panel had no cut-off table on 12 September 2026. The only stated threshold is that a zero or negative PET score isn't shortlisted.
Your own position shows on the Applicant's Dashboard; notices for each cycle appear under Current Status of Published Advertisements.
For a sense of scale: answering all 100 with 70 right gives 70 − 7.5 = 62.5; 60 right gives 50; 80 attempted with 60 right gives 55; 80 attempted with 55 right gives 55 − 6.25 = 48.75.
Preparation Tips
- Sit the PET every year. It's both the entry ticket and the ranking for shortlisting.
- Don't neglect the 35 non-pharmacy marks. UP general knowledge and computers are bounded and reward reading.
- Use the topic counts as a plan. Each Part 1 topic carries 3 to 5 questions, so skip none.
- Clinical pharmacy and jurisprudence are ten marks a working pharmacist mostly knows already.
- Answer almost everything. A guess is worth about 0.06 of a mark on average.
- Practise under real marking: 100 questions, 120 minutes, minus 0.25 per wrong answer. Past PET papers are the best general practice.
- Get certificates in hand before 5 October, and confirm the bank has adjusted your fee.
Sample Papers
No previous year papers or answer keys for any pharmacist cadre are available as of now. The Commission's answer key page and syllabus page were empty on 12 September 2026. Check them after the main exam, since that's where keys appear.
The advertisement, on Notifications and Advertisements while applications are open, carries the full syllabus.
