Selection is a written exam, then a Physical Measurement Test and Physical Efficiency Test (both qualifying, no marks), then an interview, followed by character verification and a medical.
The 2024 cycle is well along but still moving. The written exam was on 30 November 2025; the result came at the end of December and was revised; physical tests ran from January 2026; interview call letters went out on 24 January 2026; and the vacancy table was revised in August 2026.
It's also in court. The Board prints on its notices: The Result is subject to variation, depending upon the final outcome of the legal proceedings. It has issued a notice on pendency of cases (25 May 2026), a notice on WPA 2877 of 2026 and CAN 2 of 2026 (10 September 2026), and a revised PMT and PET shortlist on 12 March 2026 under a Calcutta High Court direction of 10 March 2026. Read the cycle's page on prb.wb.gov.in in date order rather than trusting any single document.

Physical Measurement Test (qualifying)
Height (barefoot) and weight by electronic machine; chest by tape, men only.
| Gender | Category | Height | Weight | Chest |

| Ex-servicemen above 35, female or third gender | 800 metres | 4 minutes 30 seconds |
Timing is by RFID, and you get one attempt.
Interview (15 marks)
Everyone who clears the PET is called. It tests general awareness, suitability for public service, and specifically your ability to speak, read and write Bengali or Nepali.
Syllabus
The Board names the four subjects and their marks, and says it decides the detailed scheme, syllabus, date and venue itself.
| Subject | Marks | Share of 85 |
|---|---|---|
| General Awareness and General Knowledge | 25 | 29 per cent |
| Elementary Mathematics (Madhyamik standard) | 25 | 29 per cent |
| Reasoning and Logical Analysis | 25 | 29 per cent |
| English | 10 | 12 per cent |
The maths is at Madhyamik standard, the same as the qualification for the post. The paper is printed in Bengali and Nepali, not English, even though English is examined; Nepali is there for the Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills.
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian citizen.
- Age 18 to 30 on 1 January 2024 for this cycle. Proof of age is only the date of birth on your Madhyamik (or equivalent) admit card or certificate.
- Madhyamik pass from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, or equivalent.
- You must speak, read and write Bengali, except permanent residents of the hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, who fall under the West Bengal Official Language Act, 1961 (West Ben. Act XXIV of 1961). It's tested at the interview.
| Category | Upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes | 5 years |
| Other Backward Classes | 3 years |
| Third Gender persons | 3 years |
| Civic Volunteers and Village Police Volunteers | 5 years |
| NVF and Home Guards serving in West Bengal Police | As per Government Rules |
| Ex-servicemen | Years of completed service, up to a maximum age of 40 |
Certificates before the interview call letter
You can't download the call letter until you've uploaded what applies: age proof, education, caste, EWS income and asset certificate, Exempted Category, a community certificate if claiming the Gorkha, Garhwali or Rajbanshi physical relaxation, enrolment certificate for NVF, Home Guards, Civic or Village Police Volunteers, Third Gender identity certificate, ex-servicemen certificate, and meritorious sportsperson certificate. Third Gender candidates also bring the identity certificate and ID in original to the PMT and PET.
Turn up for the field tests looking like your uploaded photo. The PMT and PET boards can reject a candidate who doesn't.
The OBC change of 2026
After a Calcutta High Court judgement of 22 May 2024, the Backward Classes Welfare Department on 18 May 2026 withdrew all its 2025 OBC notifications (944-BCW/MR-23/2026) and notified a State List of 66 OBC classes for 7 per cent reservation (945-BCW/MR-23/2026). On 12 August 2026 the Board replaced OBC-A and OBC-B with a single OBC category, revised the vacancy table (same total, posts moved mostly to Unreserved) and opened a special window to update category. See the revised vacancy notice of 12 August 2026.
Selection Process
- Written exam, 85 marks. Counts.
- Physical Measurement Test. Qualifying.
- Physical Efficiency Test. Qualifying.
- Interview, 15 marks. Counts.
| Component | Marks | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Written Examination | 85 | 85 per cent |
| Interview | 15 | 15 per cent |
| Total | 100 |
Ties go to higher written marks, then the older candidate, then a rule the Board decides.
After the merit list, every provisionally selected candidate fills a Verification Roll for character and antecedents, and has a medical at a State Government designated hospital, with tests set by the Department of Health and Family Welfare. You must be free of any deformity likely to affect training or the work. Only those declared fit are appointed.
Salary
The pay scale isn't given in the Information to Applicants for this cycle. It's set by State Government pay rules; check the Board's notices and wbpolice.gov.in.
Many posts go to people already serving the state: 1,680 for NVF and Home Guard personnel, 1,800 for Civic and Village Police Volunteers, 600 for ex-servicemen, plus 240 in the Sports Quota.
WBPRB also runs the Departmental Promotional Examination of Constables for promotion to ASI and LASI (Unarmed Branch) and ASI (Armed Branch).
How to Apply
| Applications opened | 7 March 2024, 00:01 hrs |
| Applications closed | 5 April 2024, 23:59 hrs |
| Mode | Online only, on prb.wb.gov.in |
The Board urges applying early to avoid server trouble. Sahaj Retail Limited centres can help you apply online.
- A short editing window after closing lets you fix personal details, but not your permanent State, mobile number or email. After that nothing changes except category.
- To change category with a later caste certificate, petition the Board in person or by email within the time given. In this cycle it also opened category updates on 4 December 2025 (extended 17 December 2025) and on 12 August 2026, with clarifications on 18 August 2026.
- When you download an admit card you enter your Aadhaar number and Aadhaar-linked mobile, verified by OTP. That number becomes your only channel for recruitment SMS.
Any canvassing cancels your candidature without appeal. The Board warns against touts promising selection for money.

Exam Centres
The written exam is at centres across West Bengal chosen by the Board; the PMT and PET at Board venues with their own admit card; the interview at a venue on your call letter; the medical at State Government designated hospitals.
At the written exam bring the e-admit card printout and original Aadhaar card. Your photo and digital attendance are captured, and skipping that gets you rejected. Mobile phones, Bluetooth hearing devices, scanners, digital or smart watches, calculators and high heels are banned.
At the PET, ex-servicemen need original service documents to get the relaxed standard. The Board sometimes issues venue corrigenda, so re-check the venue notice close to the date.

Admit Card
Each stage has its own e-admit card, on prb.wb.gov.in and wbpolice.gov.in. In this cycle the written exam cards were out by 10 November 2025, the PMT/PET cards on 2 January 2026, and interview call letters on 24 January 2026.
To download, enter your application serial number and date of birth, then your Aadhaar number and Aadhaar-linked mobile, confirm by OTP, check the details and press CONFIRM (or CANCEL to start again).
Result
The written result shortlists candidates for the PMT; everyone clearing the PET gets an interview; the final merit list is on written plus interview marks. Results are on prb.wb.gov.in under Written Results and Final Results.
In this cycle the written result (29 December 2025) was revised on 31 December with a corrigendum, and the PMT/PET shortlist was revised again on 12 March 2026 by court direction. The Result is subject to variation, depending upon the final outcome of the legal proceedings.
Cut Off
There's no fixed cut-off. The Board sets qualifying marks for the PMT shortlist at its own discretion, by category, and publishes them with the written result on prb.wb.gov.in. In this cycle that was a month after the exam.
The vacancy table splits each category into streams (Exempted Category, NVF and Home Guard, Ex-Servicemen, Civic and Village Police Volunteers, and Sports Quota for Unreserved), so your line is the one for your category and stream together. In this cycle the result, the shortlist and the 21-row vacancy table have all been revised.
Preparation Tips
- 85 questions in 60 minutes is about 42 seconds each. Practise timed.
- Don't guess blind. Four wrong answers cancel one right one; narrow to two before you answer.
- General awareness, maths and reasoning carry 25 each; English only 10.
- Train for the run. RFID timing, one attempt.
- Check your measurements against the right row, and get the community certificate if you're claiming the relaxed standard.
- Take the interview's language test seriously. Fifteen marks moves a lot of places on an 11,749-post list.
- Upload certificates early; no upload, no call letter.
- Watch category notices. Each window has a deadline.
Sample Papers
No official sample papers are available as of now. WBPRB does publish the provisional and final answer keys after each written exam (for this cycle, 5 and 27 December 2025) on the recruitment's page at prb.wb.gov.in, and the twenty-page Information to Applicants sets out the full scheme.
