Which process removes convective instability once storms develop?
Answer: B
Convection carries high equivalent potential temperature air from the boundary layer to the upper troposphere and returns cooler air, which stabilises the column and consumes the available energy. This adjustment is what convective parameterisation schemes represent. Compensating subsidence between clouds is part of the same process rather than an alternative to it. Working one numerical case through both cases side by side fixes the distinction better than any rule of thumb.
