Arrange the following four Indo-US defence agreements in chronological order on the basis of year of signing of these pacts:
1. Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Association (LEMOA)
2. Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA)
3. General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA)
4. Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA)
Answer: C
The correct order is 3, 1, 4, 2.
- GSOMIA, on protecting shared military information: 2002.
- LEMOA, on access to each other's bases for supplies and servicing: 2016.
- COMCASA, on secure communications equipment: 2018, at the first 2+2 dialogue.
- BECA, on sharing geospatial data: 2020.
These four are the 'foundational agreements' of Indo-US defence cooperation. GSOMIA came well over a decade before the others, and BECA completed the set in October 2020, so only the order beginning with GSOMIA and ending with BECA fits.
