Discussion
Consider the following statements about the distinction between primary and secondary structure:
1. Failure of primary structure would endanger the aircraft.
2. Primary structure attracts stricter inspection and repair control.
3. A wing fairing is an example of primary structure.
Which of the statements given above is or are correct?
Answer: A
The first two are correct and follow from the definition. The third is wrong: a fairing carries no flight, ground or pressure load whose loss would hazard the aircraft, so it is secondary structure and is treated far less stringently.
