One litre of water is mixed to 3 litres of sugar solution containing 4% of sugar. What is the percentage of sugar in the solution ?
Answer: B
The new solution is 3% sugar.
The sugar does not change when water is added; only the volume does.
\[ \begin{aligned} \text{sugar} &= 4\% \times 3 = 0.12\ \text{L} \\ \text{new volume} &= 3 + 1 = 4\ \text{L} \\ \text{strength} &= \frac{0.12}{4} \times 100 = 3\% \end{aligned} \]
4% ignores the added water, and 6% would need sugar to be added rather than water.
