If you count 21 letters in the English alphabet from the end and 20 letters from the begining. Which letter will appear exactly in the middle of the sequence thus formed?
Answer: B
Correct answer: M
Twenty-one letters counted from the end run from Z back to F, that is positions 6 to 26. Twenty from the beginning run from A to T, positions 1 to 20.
The sequence common to both is F to T, positions 6 to 20, and its middle is
\[ \frac{6+20}{2} = 13 \rightarrow M \]
The two counts overlap rather than join end to end, which is the step the question is really testing.
