If you count 17 letters in the English alphabet from the end and 14 letters from the begining. Which letter will appear exactly in the middle of the sequence thus formed?
Answer: B
Correct answer: L
Seventeen letters counted from the end run from Z back to J, positions 10 to 26. Fourteen from the beginning run from A to N, positions 1 to 14.
The overlap is J to N, positions 10 to 14, and its middle is
\[ \frac{10+14}{2} = 12 \rightarrow L \]
As with the companion questions, the two counts overlap in the middle of the alphabet rather than meeting end to end, and it is the shared stretch whose midpoint is wanted.
