Arrange the following events in chronological order.
1. Golaknath v/s State of Punjab
2. Keshvananda Bharati v/s State of Kerala
3. Minerva Mills Ltd. v/s State of India
4. A.K. Gopalan v/s State of Madras
Answer: C
The correct chronological order is A.K. Gopalan v. State of Madras (1950), Golaknath v. State of Punjab (1967), Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala (1973) and Minerva Mills v. Union of India (1980), that is 4, 1, 2, 3.
Golaknath held that Parliament could not amend fundamental rights, Kesavananda laid down the basic structure doctrine, and Minerva Mills applied it to strike down parts of the 42nd Amendment. Orders that put Minerva Mills before Kesavananda are wrong.
