Which one of the following words is most opposite in meaning to the word 'descend' (para 3) as used in the passage ?

The word most opposite in meaning to 'descend' is ascend.
Descend means to move down; in 'watching the water descend, drop by drop' the water falls downward. Ascend means to move up, the exact opposite.
Flow describes the movement of water in any direction and is not an opposite. Hover means to stay in one place in the air, neither up nor down. Zoom means to move very fast. None of them reverses the direction of 'descend' as 'ascend' does.
