Subtracting column by column, 20 minutes is less than 40, so an hour is borrowed as 60 minutes: 80 - 40 = 40 minutes and 21 - 18 = 3 hours. '3 hours 80 minutes' is not a proper time, since 80 minutes is more than an hour.
