Which instability involves displacement along a slanted path?
Answer: A
Conditional symmetric instability arises when a parcel displaced along a slanted path between the isentropes and the absolute momentum surfaces gains buoyancy, even though it would be stable to purely vertical displacement. It produces the banded structure often seen in frontal precipitation. The slanted displacement is what distinguishes it from ordinary convection. The quantity that varies and the quantity that does not are worth naming before any substitution is attempted.
