Which of the following experimental phenomenon is explained by the wave nature of electromagnetic radiation?
Answer: C
The phenomenon is Diffraction.
Diffraction, the bending of radiation round obstacles and the spreading through narrow openings, along with interference, is explained by the wave nature of electromagnetic radiation.
The other four are the classic phenomena the wave theory could not explain and which needed quantisation: black-body radiation (Planck), the photoelectric effect (Einstein's photons), the fall of heat capacity of solids at low temperature, and the line spectra of atoms such as hydrogen (Bohr).
