Nickel metal hydride is an entirely different chemistry used in hybrid traction packs, not a lead acid construction. Flooded, absorbed glass mat and gel are three ways of arranging the same lead acid chemistry. Tracing the requirement back to the physical constraint that produces it makes the answer follow.
