Which lamp is required to be white and forward facing?

Forward lamps show white and rearward lamps red, with amber for direction indicators. Daytime running lamps genuinely are white and forward facing and are now mandatory on new vehicles, which makes the last option correct as well and therefore a strong distractor. Reading the definition literally, rather than recalling a summary, avoids the usual confusion. A symptom that appears under one condition and not another is what narrows the diagnosis quickly.
