If five items are bought for Rs.345, Rs.375, Rs.225, Rs.255 and Rs.300. then the average price of the item is?
Answer: D
The average price is 300.
\[ \begin{aligned} \text{sum} &= 345 + 375 + 225 + 255 + 300 \\ &= 1500 \\ \text{average} &= \frac{1500}{5} = 300 \end{aligned} \]
A quick check: 345 and 255 average to 300, and so do 375 and 225, with 300 itself in the middle, so the average must be 300. 340 and 350 are near the highest prices, and 280 is below the middle of the set.
