Consider the following statements about the Eady model.
1. It neglects the beta effect.
2. It gives a short wave cut-off.
3. It gives a long wave cut-off.
Which of the statements given above is or are correct?
Answer: B
The Eady model neglects beta and produces a short wave cut-off, but it has no long wave cut-off because the long wave stabilisation is precisely what the beta effect supplies. Comparing it with the two-level model, which retains beta and does bound the unstable band above, is the clearest way to see what that single term contributes to the problem. A limit that survives making every external component ideal is an intrinsic one, and worth knowing for that reason.
