Assertion (A): Average molar mass is computed with mole fractions rather than mass fractions.
Reason (R): The average is a total mass divided by a total number of moles, and mole fractions weight the moles correctly.
Answer: A
Both are true and the reason gives the arithmetic: using mass fractions computes the reciprocal average instead, which is a different and generally smaller number. A units check on the definition settles which weighting applies.
