What does a current source in the collector do to a stage's gain?
Answer: A
A current source has a very high impedance, so the load no longer dominates and the device's own output resistance sets the gain - the intrinsic limit of a few thousand. Its impedance is high rather than low, the collector circuit plainly matters, and the gain depends on the current only through the transconductance, which cancels. Removing whichever element dominates a limit is the way to reach the limit beneath it, and this is the standard application of that idea.
