A man 'x' introducing a woman 'y' said. "Her mother is the only daughter of my mother-in-law". What is the relation of 'x' and 'y'?
Answer: A
x is father of y.
The only daughter of x's mother-in-law is x's wife, because a mother-in-law is the mother of one's wife. So the statement says that y's mother is x's wife. Drawing the chain helps: x's mother-in-law, then her only daughter (x's wife), then that daughter's child, y.
The child of x's wife is x's own child, and y is a woman, so y is x's daughter and x is y's father. x cannot be y's brother, since y's mother is his wife, and he is not y's husband, since he is married to y's mother.
