Discussion
In a certain code language,
‘A + B’ means ‘A is the sister of B’,
‘A − B’ means ‘A is the brother of B’,
‘A × B’ means ‘A is the mother of B’,
‘A ÷ B’ means ‘A is the father of B’
Based on the above, how is S related to W if ‘S ÷ T − U × V + W’?
Answer: B
S is the mother's father of W. Read S ÷ T − U × V + W step by step. S is the father of T. T is the brother of U, so S is also the father of U. U is the mother of V. V is the sister of W, so U is also the mother of W. Hence S is the father of W's mother, that is W's maternal grandfather, which is the mother's father. Father's father would require S to be the father of W's father, and the uncles in the other options would need S to be a brother, not a father.
