‘Z + A’ means ‘Z is the son of A’
‘Z & A’ means ‘Z is the wife of A’
‘Z $ A’ means ‘Z is the brother of A’
‘Z ÷ A’ means ‘Z is the mother of A’
‘Z = A’ means ‘Z is the sister of A’
If ‘X & Z $ A = Y + B ÷ Z’, then how is B related to X?
Answer: B
B is the mother-in-law of X. Decode the chain ‘X & Z $ A = Y + B ÷ Z’ step by step: X & Z means X is the wife of Z; Z $ A means Z is the brother of A; A = Y means A is the sister of Y; Y + B means Y is the son of B; and B ÷ Z means B is the mother of Z.
So B is the mother of Z, and X is Z's wife, which makes B the mother-in-law of X. ‘Mother’ would need X to be B's own child, and ‘Father’ and ‘Aunt’ are excluded because B is Z's mother and A is Z's sibling.
