'P + Q' means 'P is the sister of Q'. 'P & Q' means 'P is the husband of Q'. 'P @ Q' means 'P is the daughter of Q'. 'P % Q' means 'P is the mother of Q'. How is F related to L in 'F&G%K+L'?
Answer: A
F is the father of L.
Decode the symbols: F & G means F is the husband of G; G % K means G is the mother of K; K + L means K is the sister of L. K and L are sisters or sister and brother, so G is also the mother of L. F, being G's husband, is therefore L's father.
Mother and sister would apply to a woman, and brother would need a different symbol chain, so only father fits.
Always work through the chain in order. The husband of G is F, G is the mother of K, and K is a sister of L, so G is the mother of both K and L. That means F is the father of L, not a brother (which would need a male symbol) and not a sister or mother (which need a female).
