Discussion
Consider the following pairs:
| 1. | Maternal Uncle | Mother's brother's only sibling |
| 2. | Sister | Father's mother's only son's daughter |
| 3. | Mother | Brother's wife's only mother-in-law |
How many of the above pairs are correctly matched?
Answer: B
Only two pairs are correctly matched.
Pair 1 is wrong. Your mother's brother's only sibling is your mother herself, not your maternal uncle (the uncle is the mother's brother).
Pair 2 is right. Your father's mother's only son is your father, and your father's daughter is your sister (for a male speaker; for a female speaker the description could be herself, but the intended relation is sister).
Pair 3 is right. Your brother's wife's mother-in-law is her husband's mother, and since he is your brother that is your own mother.
So pairs 2 and 3 hold and pair 1 does not.
