Which of the following statements is/are correct?
1. In a family of six members, if A is the father of B, and B is the brother of C, then A is also father of C.
2. If D is mother of E, and E is sister of F, then D may be sister of F.
Select the answer using the codes given below:
Answer: A
1 only is correct.
Statement 1: A is B's father and B is C's brother, so B and C share a parent; within the family, A is also C's father. Correct.
Statement 2: D is E's mother and E is F's sister, so E and F are siblings and D is F's mother as well. D cannot be F's sister, so 'D may be sister of F' is wrong.
The statement 2 trap is to treat 'may be' as always safe; here the relationship is fixed by the premises and rules out sister.
