Let f be a Boolean expression in 8 variables which has true value exactly for 4 combinations out of 28 possible combinations. Then f can be expressed as sum of .......... min terms.
Answer: D
f is a sum of 4 minterms.
A minterm is a product of all 8 variables (each plain or complemented) that is 1 for exactly one combination of inputs. The canonical sum-of-products form of a function has one minterm for each input combination on which the function is true.
Since f is true for exactly 4 of the \(2^{8} = 256\) combinations, its canonical form is the sum of exactly 4 minterms. Numbers like 6, 8 or 10 would make it true for more combinations than stated.
