The amount of diesel in a compression ignition engine is controlled by :
Answer: B
The keyed answer is the rack and pinion arrangement.
In the fuel injection pump of a diesel engine, each plunger has a helical groove. A control rack engages a pinion (toothed sleeve) on each plunger, so moving the rack rotates the plungers and changes the effective stroke during which fuel is delivered. This is how the quantity of diesel injected per cycle is set.
The governor or the accelerator moves the rack, but the metering itself is done through the rack and pinion. The nozzle only atomises the fuel, and diesel engines have no throttle on the fuel, unlike petrol engines.
