Discussion
Consider the following statements about the float glass process.
1. Both surfaces are formed without grinding or polishing.
2. The ribbon is drawn continuously and cut after annealing.
3. The tin bath must be kept strongly oxidising.
Answer: C
The first two are correct. The third is inverted, since a reducing atmosphere is essential to prevent tin oxide forming and marking the glass surface. The ribbon is annealed in a lehr before cutting. Tin oxide on the bath would mark the lower face.
