State whether the following is true or false.
An exothermic peak near a thousand degrees in a clay is generally attributed to mullite formation.
Answer: B
The crystallisation releases heat and produces a characteristic sharp exotherm well above the dehydroxylation endotherm. Its presence and size are used to judge how much mullite a clay will form. The peak is absent from a clay that forms no mullite at all.
