In which of the following pairs is the first person sitting on the immediate left of the second person?
Answer: D
Correct answer: DB
Facing the centre, each person’s left is the next seat clockwise and their right the next seat anticlockwise. Fix B; H sits four to B’s left, opposite him, and F two to H’s left. A is three to C’s left and G two beyond A, which fits the remaining seats in only one way and keeps C clear of F; D and E then take the last two. Clockwise the circle reads B → D → C → E → H → A → F → G.
To sit on someone’s immediate left is to occupy the next seat clockwise from them. D occupies exactly that seat with respect to B. In the other pairs the first person sits on the second’s right, or not beside them at all.
