Which layer of gas in the atmosphere protects us from harmful ultra violet rays of the sun ?
Answer: D
The protective layer is ozone.
Ozone (O3) is concentrated in the stratosphere, roughly 15 to 35 km above the earth. This ozone layer absorbs most of the sun's harmful ultraviolet radiation, which would otherwise cause skin cancer and cataracts and damage plants and marine life.
Nitrogen and oxygen make up most of the air but do not form a shield against ultraviolet rays in this way. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, which traps outgoing heat (infrared radiation) rather than blocking incoming ultraviolet.
