A. Backshore
B. Foreshore
C. Nearshore
D. Offshore
List II
1. from low water seaward to the breaker zone
2. above normal high water, reached only in storms
3. seaward of the breakers where waves are unbroken
4. the intertidal zone between high and low water
Answer: A
The divisions are defined by water level and by wave behaviour rather than by any fixed distance. Each is dominated by a different set of processes and responds on a different timescale. Boundaries move as water level and wave conditions change.
