Discussion
Consider the following statements about seasonal beach change.
1. Winter storm waves typically flatten the profile and build a bar.
2. Summer swell returns sediment shoreward and rebuilds the berm.
3. The sediment moved offshore in a storm is permanently lost.
Answer: B
The first two are correct and describe the seasonal cycle. The third is wrong for the ordinary case, since the sand remains within the active profile and returns under milder conditions. Only losses beyond the depth of closure are permanent.
