Assertion (A): A regional coastal monitoring programme is more efficient than many local ones.
Reason (R): Consistent methods across a whole cell allow the data to be compared directly.
Answer: A
Correct answer: Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A
Both are true and the reason gives the benefit. Beach profiles, aerial surveys and wave records collected to a common specification across a whole cell can be compared directly between frontages and combined into a picture of the sediment budget - which is impossible where each authority measures differently, at different times, to different datums. The shared cost of one programme is also far below the sum of many small ones.
