State whether the following is true or false.
Managed realignment is frequently used to compensate for habitat lost to coastal squeeze.
Answer: D
Correct answer: True
Coastal squeeze occurs where an intertidal habitat is caught between a rising sea and a fixed defence and is progressively lost. Since the habitat is generally designated, the loss must be compensated, and the usual means is managed realignment - breaching a defence to let the sea into land behind it, where new intertidal habitat forms. Compensation of this kind is now a substantial part of the case for many realignment schemes.
