1. Physical standards degrade with light exposure and handling.
2. Numerical standards do not change over time.
3. A physical standard is always preferable to a numerical one.
Answer: D
The first two are correct and describe the trade-off. The third is not generally so, since a numerical standard avoids drift entirely and travels far more easily. Each form has its own advantages. Numerical standards do not drift with time.
