Discussion
Match each measure of measurement quality with its meaning.
List I
A. Repeatability
B. Reproducibility
C. Inter-instrument agreement
D. Accuracy
List II
1. one sample measured on several units
2. successive readings on one instrument
3. agreement with an accepted reference value
4. readings across instruments or laboratories
Answer: D
Each answers a different question about the reliability of a number. An instrument may be repeatable without being accurate at all. Consistency and correctness are separate matters. A systematic offset leaves repeatability untouched.
