Discussion
Arrange the steps of a combustion calculation in the usual order.
1. apply the excess air to obtain the air supplied
2. take a basis of one hundred units of fuel
3. obtain the flue gas composition from the balances
4. compute the theoretical oxygen from the ultimate analysis
Answer: B
Everything follows from the fuel analysis, and the air cannot be found before the theoretical requirement is known. The flue gas is the last step because it needs both the fuel and the air figures. A basis of a hundred units keeps the arithmetic tidy.
