Which of the following is not controlled mainly by dilution hole placement?
Answer: D
Correct answer: The weak extinction limit
The weak extinction limit is a property of the primary zone - of the local mixture strength, the recirculation and the fuel preparation - and dilution holes are far downstream of it. What they do control is everything about the exit: the temperature pattern, its peak, and hence the pattern factor, which is why they are the feature adjusted during rig development.
