The Confederation of Indian Industry released its Task Force report Desirable Corporate Governance: A Code in 1998. The task force was chaired by Rahul Bajaj, and the report was the first major voluntary code of corporate governance in India.
The other years are distractors. The Kumar Mangalam Birla Committee, which led to Clause 49 of the listing agreement, reported only in 1999 and 2000 under SEBI, so those later developments should not be confused with the CII code of 1998. 1988, 1992 and 2001 are not the year of the CII report.
