What was the reward ?
Answer: C
The reward was release from jail with some money.
When the Raja found the man's account to be true, he gave him a sum of money and set him free. Both things are stated together in the passage, so the option that has both is the complete answer.
Money alone (A) and release alone (B) each leave out one part of the reward, and a pardon (D) is not the word used, since the man was found never to have committed the offence. So C is correct.
