In a shock tube, the diaphragm burst sends into the low-pressure gas
Answer: D
The pressure difference drives a shock into the low-pressure driven gas, compressing and heating it, while a centred expansion fan runs back into the high-pressure driver gas. The region between them is the uniform test gas, and it is what makes the shock tube such a useful short-duration facility.
