The answer is all of the above.
Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Siri and Microsoft's Cortana are all virtual assistants. Each uses artificial intelligence: speech recognition to convert voice into text, natural language processing to work out what the user wants, and machine learning to improve its responses over time.
Since every one of the three uses AI, picking only one would be incomplete.
