After installing a sound card, the system locks up when a parallel port tape backup unit is also used. What is most likely the problem?

A sound card and a parallel port device that both want the same interrupt will each work alone and lock the machine when used together. That signature - two devices fine separately, fatal together - is an IRQ conflict.
