Development is the product of _________. (Choose most appropriate answer from below)
Answer: C
Development is the product of maturation and learning.
Maturation is the unfolding of abilities according to an inborn biological timetable, such as the nervous system becoming ready to control walking. Learning is the change that comes from practice and experience. A child walks or talks only when both are present: the body must be ready, and the child must practise.
Heredity and environment each describe only one influence, not the process itself. Height and weight are measures of growth, not causes of development.
