A famous author "M" had written a book "Taken Together the Nationalism" in 1911. The author died in 1941.
When the copyright with respect to the book comes to an end and it falls in public domain ?
Answer: A
The copyright ends on 31/12/2001.
Under section 22 of the Copyright Act, 1957, copyright in a published literary work lasts for the author's lifetime and 60 years counted from the beginning of the calendar year following the year of death.
The author died in 1941, so the 60 years run from 1 January 1942 and end on 31 December 2001, after which the book enters the public domain. 31/12/1951 is ten years after death, 31/12/1991 fifty years, and 31/12/2011 seventy years, the term used in some other countries.
