The Miller indices for the shaded plane shown in the unit cell below is

Answer: D
The Miller indices are (123).
The plane cuts the three axes at a, b/2 and c/3, that is at fractional intercepts 1, 1/2 and 1/3. The Miller indices are the reciprocals, cleared of fractions:
\(\left(\tfrac{1}{1}, \tfrac{1}{1/2}, \tfrac{1}{1/3}\right) = (1, 2, 3)\)
A plane is written in round brackets, (hkl); square brackets [uvw] denote a direction, so [123] and [632] are the wrong notation. (632) comes from taking the intercepts 1, 1/2, 1/3 and multiplying by 6 instead of inverting them.
